Plane table. noun. A portable surveying instrument consisting essentially of a drawing board and a ruler mounted on a tripod and used to sight and map topographical details.

Plane Tabling – 20th March with NOSAS
Here are some pictures taken by Shona Leggatt of our plane tabling on Sunday the 20th March 2016. Great to see a mix of locals and Nosas on the site.

Site Clearance
A big thank you to all the people that helped to clear the site this weekend (12th and 13th March). We did a great job with a small group of people and have found a couple points of interest for the plane tabling next week.

Plane Tabling Survey and Site Clearance
Having sorted out various formalities and liaised with the relevant bodies (including Historic Environment Scotland and the landowners, Broadland Properties), we are now ready to progress to some hands-on activity. A Plane-Tabling Survey of the site is planned for Sunday 20th and Monday 21st March. Led by volunteers from NOSAS, this non-invasive survey will allow us to plot and create an accurate drawing of the castle and is a vital precursor to any excavation. We are keen to involve interested members of the local community in this exercise. No prior experience is necessary as training will be provided; all that is required is appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear and your own refreshments. Interested volunteers should email digavoch@gmail.com with their name, contact details and their availability/preference for the Sunday or Monday, morning or afternoon. As numbers will be limited, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Finally, prior to the survey, we will be undertaking some limited vegetation removal. If you are interested in volunteering your time and tools, please drop us an email. Alternatively (and weather permitting), we will be leading supervised clearing parties on the site on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 March between 10.30 and 16.00 and would welcome volunteers.
